Kitty’s Art Studio at Springwood Barn is a peaceful woodland space where I teach project‑led art courses and develop my own creative practice. Every session nurtures curiosity, confidence and the joy of making.

Teaching Overview

Over the course of a year, I teach a wide range of materials, techniques and topics. Nothing is repeated, just built upon. Every project begins with the basics and then adapts to suit each student’s abilities. I welcome complete beginners through to knowledgeable artists... there's always something new to learn!

At the start of each term, I usually run longer 6‑week courses. These are designed for students who want to learn a skill or method in depth, taking time to explore techniques without rushing. The pause between weekly classes offers space to reflect and arrive ready for the next step.

After half term, the timetable shifts to shorter sessions, 2‑hour workshops or 3‑week mini courses, which fit beautifully around seasonal commitments. This structure makes it easy to join at any point in the year, ensuring there is always something inspiring to explore.

Location

Kitty's Art Studio is located at Springwood Barn in Haslemere, Surrey.

I teach from a small woodland studio barn on the farm, located in an area of natural beauty. Surrounded by fields, trees and shifting seasonal elements. This inspiring environment helps shape every course, bringing a natural focus to studying form, colour and the details found outdoors.

During each session, I offer hot and cold drinks including a homemade sweet treat. A little pause in the middle of the class to rest, chat and enjoy the studio atmosphere.

Every course ends with a finished piece and an in‑depth sketchbook full of studies, colour tests and ideas you’ve explored along the way. It becomes a personal record of your learning and a resource you can keep building on at home. Workshops include a smaller, mini sketchbook version so you still leave with notes, experiments and a place to continue practising. With only eight students per session, you’ll always have space, support and time for individual guidance.

When you come to the studio, I make sure you have everything you need. You don’t have to bring any materials at all. Everything is provided, whether you’re joining a two‑hour workshop or a six‑week course. Just arrive, settle in, and enjoy creating.

My adult creative courses are designed to feel calm, welcoming and personal. I guide you through new techniques, introduce inspiring ideas, and help you build practical skills at a pace that feels comfortable. There’s plenty of room to experiment, interpret ideas in your own way, and start developing a style that feels truly yours. This isn’t a paint‑and‑sip where everyone makes the same thing, it’s a space to explore, learn and create work that feels individual and meaningful.

The Bluebell Wood

Beside the studio lies a semi‑ancient woodland that bursts into a beautiful carpet of bluebells during April and early May. During this short season I run mini‑courses, studying the bluebells plein air. It’s a truly lovely experience, whether you join a morning session or an evening class — the early‑evening light is especially magical.
